POD BENCH

Pod Bench.
Location: Hulme Park, Manchester 1998
Size: 2.4m x 1m x 0.7m
Material: Reclaimed Timber

Eight feet long and made with reclaimed timber the Pod Bench was commissioned by Landscape Projects of Manchester. They were developing a 'Sensory Garden' within the newly created Hulme Park in Manchester and commissioned a number of artists to make functional and non-functional artwork to be sited there. Pod Bench took one month to build and three months after that it was sited on a concrete foundation.

This project was preceded by community arts workshops in which participants of all ages made small ceramic sculptures exploring possible ideas in the design process for the seating. One of the designs in the form of a pea pod was the starting point for the design of 'Pod Bench'.
