This shader has of course had enough exposure in my CG work, however there's something I want to try which shouldn't take to long. To animate some of the parameters of the shader using mayas Bonus tools Audiowave.mll plug-in.
Its a case of modelling a suitable screen filling object that warps slowly over time - using a deformer. Then applying the shader and trying to select the right parameters to animate using the music. It therefore requires the right tune also, although a frequency range can be specified in the connection.
The music, if I am not mistaken, will need to be linked to the noise (14) node, and possibly the remap value (12) input / output ranges. Connecting to the noise will affect the depth and movement in the bump indented into the shader. Connecting to the remap values will affect the range of values that the bump effect will cover (based on tonal values beween 0 and 1, defined by the ramp.
So I will give it a go, and wholley expect Maya to throw in some problems without any indication of what caused them or how to fix them. Hopefully the frustrations with Maya are just a natural part of the process of getting to know a piece of software. Experience and research tell me otherwise!
